Software engineer resumes: put the stack where the proof is

How to name languages and systems without a bloated skills dump — plus bullets that show impact.

Updated 2026-08-03

Engineering screens look for stack nouns — languages, cloud, data stores, CI — but a fifty-item list without stories still fails the human read. Keep the skills line tight; put proof in bullets.

Placement that works

Skills: primary stack only. Bullets: “Built X with TypeScript and Node…” If the posting leans hard on Kubernetes, don’t bury that work under a vague “cloud projects” line.

Example bullets

  • Shipped a GraphQL API in TypeScript/Node that cut dashboard load time for daily users
  • Hardened payments webhooks with idempotency keys and better logging after repeated retry failures
  • Added CI checks that stopped flaky tests from landing on main for a multi-person team
